Your Office Chair Is Killing You
If you’re health conscious, in addition to exercising and cutting down on things such as sugar, you’re probably careful about the way you sit. Maybe you have an ergonomic chair, with lumbar support and adjustable heights, or maybe you just try not to slouch, or perhaps you’re reading this bouncing on a yoga ball. Unfortunately however, your well-meaning attempts may be in vain. In a Business Week article titled “Your Office Chair is Killing You” the author suggests that sitting is actually reverse evolution. The Homo Saipan is defined by his ability to walk and to move, and that’s what our bodies are made for. Sitting, even on the most advanced ergonomic chair has profound negative effects on our health and life-expectancy, and these are true regardless of weight. The solution offered is to banish sitting altogether and return to our species’ specialty: standing on two feet.
